On Wednesday 2 April we will be joined by around 80 solicitors at the “Battle of the Bar” co-hosted with the Junior London Solicitors Litigation Association. This is a re-run, at the solicitors’ request, of an event from 2023. It is a fantastic showcase for a handful of our junior members, which involves minimal preparation and has yielded real instructions for our attendees. Contestants in the inaugural event had the following to say:
“The event was seriously fun – there are lots of events around which offer speaking opportunities, but they tend to be rather dull. This was definitely not dull. Perhaps more importantly, my participation in the event generated serious work for me: one of the solicitors I met at last year’s event later instructed me in a substantial trial listed for 2025.”
“I strongly encourage junior members of the LCLCBA to grab one of the few places available speak at this superb event. It is brilliantly designed so that you can showcase your wares in an informal and engaging setting. The format makes the evening enjoyable for speakers and attendees alike, and there is ample opportunity to post-talk mingling with high quality solicitors. Thoroughly recommended!”
“I was honoured to speak at the most fun event of the year – the Battle of the Bar was lively, interesting and informative. My participation in this unique event has generated a lot of positive opportunities for me to have conversations with solicitors about my wider practice, which I hope in turn will lead to further instructions in due course.”
“If you’ve ever been tempted to slip silly jokes or absurd visual aids into a seminar, then this is the ideal forum to indulge that whim. This is particularly the case given the mutually supportive and warm atmosphere, not to mention the swathe of attendees from excellent firms. It’s great fun, and it’s a great opportunity.”
